From my friend Mark Drury: Bitter sweet shed hunt (the other) weekend…we found some awesome Dream Sheds but EHD took some 36 bucks off of the (property). Here are just a few of them.
2012 will go down as one of the worst years for hemorrhagic disease (mostly strains of a virus known as epizootic hemorrhagic disease or EHD, but which also includes the closely related blue tongue virus).
Have you found any dead bucks while you’re out knocking around the woods, looking for sheds or turkeys?
Indiana has been hit pretty hard here too. We have had hot, dry summers here the last 3 years and you can tell it by the EHd factors that have cost us a lot of nice bucks too. Lets hope for some rain this summer and a break from the hot pattern so the deer can maybe bounce back. Sorry about the EHD in your area…..hate to lose those big boneheads.
Jon has a managed farm north of Roanoke VA and tells me that EHD killed 25% of the bucks on his land in 2012, most of them 3-5 year old bucks, a shame
