A weird thing happened the other day to our favorite outdoor couple, Zach and Ellie:
Hey Mike: We went hunting Saturday, January 17th and saw the big boy we have been after, but this time he didn’t have any antlers! So we decided to walk out into our wheat field where he usually goes and look what we found.
Finding the sheds of the deer you’ve been after all year is the best feeling and the worst feeling at the same time.—Zach and Ellie from Southern Illinois
That’s pretty cool! If he’s around next year, maybe you’ll get a chance at him and then you have a cool story and mount with sheds!!
That’s an impressive set antlers. Only a true hunter with love for the sport would take the time to find that rack. Thanks for contributing to our community.. I also checked out the giant shotgun buck you guys have posted. I wrote and read about alot of things in our spot and I’ve gotta say that is probably the best shotgun buck I’ve ever seen.
Not a bad “second place”, I suppose. Actually found my first shed antler of the season on that same day. First one I’ve ever found “fresh” (there was blood from the pedicle), which was my goal this year. I ended up retrieving images from my Cuddeback and got a picture of the same young buck with his right side still intact from 1/16/15). The shed I found was most likely two, and perhaps one day old when I found it atop the snow. Not a giant shed, but the earliest and freshest one I’ve ever found.
You should have shot him and then just had the taxidermist put the rack back on ; ) JK What states are they already typically dropping in Mike? I know in the southern states it’s much later than the places that have a harsh winter.
