While the hunting is over for most of you, it is just getting good in some areas of the Deep South, most notably Alabama where the peak of the rut is due to explode any day. If you’re hunting down there the next couple of weeks, here are some rut tips.
Alabama hunter Logan Bell, 21, got a jump on the rut and rang in 2015 in a big way. He killed this fine old buck on New Year’s Day in Talladega Co. Shot him w/a lever-action .30-30. Cool, old-school, anybody else still shot a .30-30?
Logan did you shoot this buck in the Talladega Nat. Forrest? Or was he a private land buck. I’ve seen some really good bucks coming out of AL this season, and Mike you’re right things are just getting started down there. Last year my friend who owns a deer camp in south Alabama said he had bucks rutting all the way into March! Crazy southern bucks.
Nice buck! I can’t wait to pull another big buck in 2015 myself. Thanks for the post.

Yep, shot a buck with my 30-30 lever action in Kentucky two years ago…………….felt just like I was John Wayne……pilgrim.
That’s awesome! Congrats. Was down there last week and messed up on a very nice eight…gonna sting for awhile!
Still have one? You bet also use it and a .32 Special along with a .35 Remington those lever guns are the best format for where I hunt in Pa. .
Congratulations, a great looking Alabama buck!
