Got this on our Big Deer Facebook page: “Jeff Ames shot this monster in Monroe County on 11/26/2013 near the Town of Chili. He has seen this deer for 2 years and missed him last year. Redemption!!” This is a great buck and a huge accomplishment. I hunted northwestern New York (the Adirondacks, near Speculator) for the first time last season--it was some of the toughest deer hunting I’ve ever experienced (low numbers of deer per square mile, steep terrain…). But, the cool thing was hanging out in camp and hunting hard with a group of guys from across the upstate (picture below), seeing and living their passion and dedication for our sport, things you’ll see in a new episode [...]

We have been shooting some amazingly wide bucks here in VA the last couple of seasons, here’s another one that was shot December 20 not too far from my house: Hey Mike: This buck was shot by my buddy's dad in Orange County: 9- inch G-2, 23.5" main beams, 24.5" outside spread, heavy bases. Shot him at 75 yards with 30.06, 150-grain bullet. If you could give him a shout out that would be awesome!—Your friend Tanner Knecht Shout out given and well deserved for this beautiful VA deer, way to go man!

"I didn't take a phone, a watch, binoculars, anything," Jeff Toy said. But on a whim, he grabbed a handful of shells for his coat pocket, a spare gun, and a 5-gallon bucket to sit on at the edge of the property while his fellow hunters used his deer stands… He was perched on the bucket, enduring snow and wind…when a deer "came wandering through without a care in the world"…when it got within a couple of hundred yards…he took his shot… Click here for the entire story of this massive Michigan monster, one of the top bucks of 2013!

Montana: Milk River Trad Buck

Note: One of the greatest disappointments of my hunting career is not having hunted out on the Milk River for the last 3 years. Miss everything about it—the sights, sounds and smells of the river; the intense on-the-ground bow action; the camaraderie with my dear friends, Luke and Eliot Strommen. Man we had fun and filmed some awesome TV shows and shot some fine bucks out there the last 10 years, before most of the deer died. Luke sent me this blog, and all the good times and memories came flooding back…      Mike: I had been hunting an area along the river for about two weeks, from a pair of new tree stands that I had put up back [...]
