My best hunts of the year are the ones I take with wounded veterans like Ken (left) and Calvin. Ken served in both the U.S. Marines and Army, and was injured during one of his tours in Iraq. Young Calvin lost a foot and lower leg in Afghanistan. It was an honor for me to hunt deer with these heroes in my Virginia homeland last November. Thanks to the Outdoor Recreation Heritage Fund for helping to make that happen. You will see the episode on #BIG DEER TV on the Sportsman Channel later this fall.
We talked long into the nights on our hunt, and both Ken and Cal told me intense and inspiring war stories…they said that in spite of their injuries, they’d do it again for America and our freedoms.
They spoke quietly and with a crack in their voices about some of their brothers and sisters that did not make it back. It is those warriors throughout history–those who made the ultimate sacrifice for us–that we celebrate this weekend.
To every soldier that has served a thank you from deep in my heart. I wish I could share the deer woods with every one of you.
God bless America, and never forget.
Much more of the same from the Weimer family. The real American Heroes are the ones out there toiling under fire, etc. I say God Bless all American service folks from the bottom of my heart as well. There is a special place in Heaven for all those who sacrifice(d) for the American Ideals, Dreams, and continued Way of Life.
Much love to all who have served, are serving, and will in the future. You are the people who deserve all the credit for making America what she has become. May we never, ever forget any of the the dead, and may our government fix the problems with the VA System, because people like Ken and Calvin and thousands of others deserve to be treated fairly and consistently for their service to America.
BTW, Hanback, those are some nice bucks on the buck pole. I’m sure those are special memories. Again, God Bless you and those fine gentlemen and women who
fight for the America that we all hold so dear.
big damn dido. Thanks to our brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers for our freedoms.
psalms 144:1
To Ken, Calvin, and all who have served in our armed forces…..a heartfelt Thank-you from all of us in the hunting community. Without your sacrifices, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy the things we do like the outdoors. God bless each and every one of you. You make America what is is today…the greatest country on earth.
