This picture has been making the rounds on Facebook and forums for a while. The person who sent it to me says it was killed here in Virginia (the hardwoods look right) but it is rumored to have come from a couple other states too (this is how these Interweb rumors work).
Anyhow, look at the size of that thing. If legit, from the looks of it, this cat would weigh maybe twice as much as the average Virginia bobcat, which tips the scales at 25 pounds max.
Something doesn’t look right about the head/neck? But who knows, it could be right, and the size of the critter is a camera angle thing.
Seen this picture before? What do you think?
Why does everything have to be photoshopped? That’s simply a wide angle lens with the cat’s head about 2 feet from the camera. There are usually plenty of clues that the photo was taken that way. Look at his left knee (in the pic) compared with his boot behind him. The proportion is way off for a normal 35 mm shot. That’s because it was probably shot on 18 mm (or less) wide angle lens . Still a big cat, but I can double the size of an animal with that kind of photography.
Holy Kitty! Ha that is a monster, but like the fellas above me I have my reservations about believing this to be truly as big as it looks. I’ve seen some giant bobcats in my days of hunting and for some reason there are a TON of bobcats in southern Alabama. Of all the cats I’ve seen and killed none were as big as this kitty.
Looks photoshopped to me.
It looks like some trick photography to me.Comparing the size of the cats body and head to the size of the top of the waders makes me think the cat was superimposed on a photo or held much closer to the camera, the same way you make a 3 lb bass look like a 6 lber. It may be real but I would have to see that cat to believe it.
Have a hard time buying this one. Looks like photoshop to me. I have a 31 lb bobcat on the wall in my office. I shot it in Tx about 5 years ago. That is a big cat and its head is no where near as big as this one. This cat would have to be pushing 40+. I hope it is real, but have serious reservations.
