Thanks to Zach Atkins for this cool story: Hey Mike, my girlfriend and I had come home from hunting one day and we were eating breakfast. Ellie happened to look outside and about 200 yards out in the field was this monster. We put our boots back on and snuck out to put the sneak on him. We bellied crawled to about 85 yards from him and she dropped him with one shot from the H&R shotgun. He has tons of character!

Thanks to Tami O’Day for today’s guest blog. Great job Tami! My husband and I typically only get a few days to hunt together because of his hunting and filming commitments, but we had aligned our time away from work this fall to give us 6 days. The morning of October 31, he left for work at 3 am and set the alarm for 5:20 so I would be up when he came back at 5:30 am. He went to work, got 2 hours in, called me at 5:25 to make sure I was up “because it feels like a great day to poke a hole in a buck.” We pulled into the farm at 6:10 and did our pre-hunt [...]

Iowa: Public-Land 190″ Buck!

2020-06-10T09:23:19-04:00December 9th, 2013|Big Deer Stories, BigDeer|4 Comments

Mike: Thought I would share some pics of a brute I took off public land in Iowa with my bow.  My best buck ever.  I had a lot of trail cam pictures of him during the summer and hunted him hard, and it all came together on the morning of November 8th.  He has 20 points and grossed in the 190’s. —Thanks, Ben Fein Ben, what a buck, congrats! This is one of the best hunting accomplishments of the 2013 season for sure, way to go man.

Oklahoma Muzzleloader Buck

Mike: I thought you'd like to see the buck I shot with a muzzle loader in Oklahoma this year. He's a cool looking buck with 18 points (15 score-able) and scores in the low 140's. The hunt was pretty awesome. He came in from the opposite direction that a doe came from, but turned around to follow her trail through a thicket before I could get a real good look at him or get a shot. I snort wheezed at him twice, and he came back out about 2 minutes later looking for the "buck" that had made the noise. One shot from the muzzleloader and he went about 20 yards. The only downside for me is that I believe he's [...]
