Today’s fine guest blog is from Kentucky bowhunter Jeff Fogle, who hunted the Crabclaw Buck for 4 long years: Mike: I first saw him 4 years ago in the summer of 2010. He was 4 years old then and already completely nocturnal. I attempted to hunt him a few times, but never saw him. In 2012 I studied aerial maps hard to try and find where he was bedding. I had a gut feeling about a particular ridge top that I had never hunted, so in late October that year I hung a stand and hunted it. Reports coming in say this monster was shot in Winona County, Minn., on Monday. There’s talk that it may be a new Minn. state record. Winona Co. is right across the Mississippi River from Buffalo Co., Wisconsin. People in the know tell me there are great whitetail genetics over there, maybe better than the famed Buffalo Co.

Thanks to Tony for letting us know about this monster that a hunter shot in Charles County, Maryland last week (they kill some big deer every year in that county). Cool buck, main-frame 10 w/split G-2s and super-wide. After battling the heat and mosquitoes for a couple days, it cooled off a bit and Jon got the monster he and his wife had named “Colossus.” Way to go man! Read the story at Marylandwhitetail.com    

Mike: August 30. I Never saw or heard him. I looked down and he was 10 yards away broadside. I knew the mass was awesome, but thought the drop was bigger (just kidding). My stand was only 8 feet up. Thank goodness he was looking south into the wind. I couldn’t sit that stand on the opener due to wind direction. Glad I got to the next day.  The entire hunt was a half hour long.--MDT
