This is a great guest post from our friend Zach Fleer out in Missouri: Mike: Finally caught up to this 6 ½-year-old buck this weekend. I have four years of trail camera history with this buck, and this marks the first time I ever laid eyes on him. He would spend his summers on one end of our farm, and disappear the first week of September. Each of the last few seasons, I would assume he was dead, and then he would show back up in May. November 2016 Supermoon Rut Tactics

The full moon now is not only the closest and brightest “supermoon” of 2016, but it’s also the largest since 1948. Check it out tonight because a full moon won't come this close to Earth again until Nov. 25, 2034. I don’t know if the closeness and brightness of this moon will make the whitetails rut any harder than normal, but I do believe this full-moon rut week will be a good time to kill a big deer. Mike, I went hunting yesterday for the first time since 10/1/15. (Click and read The Fall: Must-Read for Tree Stand Hunters). Man did it ever feel good to be back out there! I promised my wife I'd never climb another tree without 100% safety measures put in place. I'm determined to shoot a good buck from a ground blind, or just hunting from the ground, this year. Friend and longtime Big Deer blogger Luke Strommen writes: So proud of this young lady! Summer, who turned 10 two days earlier, was so excited to go hunt for her first buck. It was 25 degrees and really foggy on opening morning of the two-day youth hunt. After setting up in a blind on edge of a wheat field, I told Summer that we would try to tag the first buck that gave us an ethical opportunity, if we saw one.
