Mitch on Facebook says: My top hit-lister "Zeus" is starting to show up during daylight… I know he is 6.5 based on history with him. I hope this is the year we get to bring him home in the truck! Nathan emailed the unique buck below and said: Mike, love your show and website. My buddy and I picked up a new lease and had this big guy show up on camera. We call him Dagger! Is it unusual for a mature buck to show up in daylight this time of the year? It is not unheard of for bucks like these to be visible in daylight in August. Some bucks are simply not as nocturnal as others. I told Nathan that he needs [...]

South Dakota: East Sioux Falls Buck Still Alive in 2015!

In October 2008 I first blogged about a giant whitetail that was living in the city limits of East Sioux Falls. Somebody posted a Youtube video of him (I don’t see it online now) and it caused mild hysteria amongst hunters and non-hunters alike. At the time people figured the buck was the walking state record non-typical for South Dakota. He was a 12x14 and people figured he might score 250! On the ground you stand fence-post straight, plant your feet in a baseball hitter’s stance, stare across at your target, draw with ease and let an arrow fly. Pretty simple. In a tree stand, you often have to turn and contort your body, sometimes wildly so, and your footing is trickier. Leaning left, right, [...]

BIG DEER TV Tonight: “Blood Moon Rising”

2020-06-10T09:19:36-04:00July 15th, 2015|Big Deer TV, BigDeer|90 Comments

All-new episode tonight on Sportsman Channel 10 ET/9C. Here are some clips from the script you’ll see and hear: “I’m on a high desert adventure in the Oregon Outback with Big Deer producer Justin and his buddy Nick.  “At first glance the high desert appears to be a harsh moonscape. But upon further inspection, you see pockets of water and prime habitat that support the numerous wildlife adapted to thrive here… “Oregon’s high desert is a landscape born of fire. Beginning some 3 million years ago, a string of young volcanoes in eastern Oregon began erupting and covering large terrains with lava flows of basalt. This igneous rock…formed from the rapid cooling of lava exposed at or near the surface…rises [...]
