From Boone and Crockett Trophy Watch: 15 year-old Bo Dylak shot this monster buck in Boone County, Illinois on the first weekend of shotgun season last November (2014). The buck was measured/scored as a 16-point typical with a green score of 201 5/8. The club says Bo’s buck might be a top 5 for Illinois upon final scoring. Estimated live weight was well over 300 pounds. There’s only been one other B&C typical whitetail ever shot in Boone County. Awesome Bo!

Survey: Small Private Lands Key to Deer Hunting

2020-06-10T09:19:36-04:00June 25th, 2015|BigDeer|936 Comments

Huntersurvey.com recently asked people what type land they hunt on the most: 38 percent said a friend's or family member's property for free...28 percent said public land…18 percent hunt on land they own…11 percent lease or belong to a hunt club. The survey also asked what size land: 38 percent said they hunted 200 acres or larger, but 24 percent hunt properties of 50 acres or less. The takeaway: Small to mid-size private lands that people can hunt for free continue to be the foundation of whitetail hunting across America. Over time, this is where the majority of us grew up hunting, learning the woods, coming to enjoy and respect nature, learning how to do it. It’s where we took our kids to get them into [...]

NY Prison Escape: Police Ask Adirondack Hunters To Check Trail Cameras

2021-01-12T15:44:27-05:00June 24th, 2015|BigDeer|Comments Off on NY Prison Escape: Police Ask Adirondack Hunters To Check Trail Cameras

From Fox News.com: Authorities combing the rugged wilds of upstate New York for a pair of killers who escaped a maximum security prison two weeks ago are turning to those who know the terrain best, asking hunters to help in the search. Richard Matt and David Sweat cut their way out of Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora on June 6. They’ve eluded a massive manhunt since then and authorities admitted Friday it’s “entirely possible” the search could take months. They said their plan is to pursue the two men “relentlessly” while turning to hunters for assistance. “We’re asking them to review video from…trail cameras to see if they see anything suspicious,” State Police Maj. Charles Guess said at a press [...]

First photo I got from a fellow on Twitter, a real nice 8-point shaping up somewhere in southern Missouri. Last 2 are living and growing on public land in the East; both photos (pics from computer screen) from early May. “One has stuck around and is looking good, and the other is hard to get pictures of,” says Stewart. Send me your buck images anytime (mikehanback@yahoo.com), the more we look at the better as we get hopped up for the 2015 season.

Trail Cam Bucks, 2015

First cam picture of the year from our friend Danny. Send me your pictures (mikehanback@yahoo.com) as you get them so that we can watch the bucks grow along with you! I’ll keep the locations of the deer top secret if you wish: Had the trail cams up for about a week. Got this guy to watch this year. Didn't get any good front pics of him. But, for early June he's showing potential.  Imagine if those brows keep growing. Absolutely love this time of year. Had over 300 pics in 6 days. 13 different bucks. My family's property has always been the summer range for bucks. Wish they'd stick around all season! When my daughter saw the first pic of this guy [...]
