Big Saskatchewan Shed!

Our friend Amanda w/Buck Country Outfitters in Saskatchewan found this great matching set the other day. Three common characteristics of the racks up there jump out: dark, almost black in color (the color of used motor oil is a term I've written many times); good mass, almost a clubby look, though great tine length on these antlers; and short brow tines, which cost many bucks up there 5-10 inches in score. Let's say this buck puts on 20 more inches of bone this summer (but no junk), he'll be in the 170s gross typical w/not many inches of deduction, although his right side is a tad weaker. He could in the best case scenario net 170 book. And if the winter weather holds, he and [...]

After Season Report: Is World Record Buck Still Walking In Wisconsin?

2020-06-10T09:16:59-04:00February 15th, 2016|Big Deer Stories, BigDeer, Deer Hunting, Deer Management|8 Comments

Last October I posted this amazing photo and asked this question: Is this the new world record walking in Wisconsin? Rumors were flying that this massive 8x8 might gross 220. Obviously nobody got him last season—the story and pictures would have blown up the Interweb and rocked the hunting world. I wondered if anybody had seen him or possibly had an encounter with him, so I asked the fellow who got this photo for an after the season update. I had no idea it would turn out to be such a fascinating story. Hi Mike: Unfortunately my only sighting of “Ghost” on stand last season was on opening day and he was a little too far and in too much brush [...]

Update: Kansas Roadkill Buck 182 7/8 Net

2020-06-10T09:17:00-04:00January 25th, 2016|Big Deer Stories, Big Deer TV, BigDeer|1 Comment

We first posted about this buck in October 2015. It was found dead on the side of the road in Leawood, KS. Initial speculation was the rack would score in the 190-200 range, with some estimates saying as high as 212 gross. Antler fanatic Cameron C. recently got to see and hold the rack, and he gives us the final details via a Facebook post: 211" total bone...200" typical frame...182 7/8" net typical...27 2/8" inside spread Wow what a buck, and what a shame it had to die that way. Thanks Cam for the update.

North Carolina 200-Class Buck

2020-06-10T09:17:00-04:00January 25th, 2016|Big Deer Stories, Big Deer TV|Comments Off on North Carolina 200-Class Buck

From North Carolina Sportsman: Over the past 10 years, Patrick Williams of Belews Creek has passed on hundreds of smaller bucks in hopes of killing one for the record books, and his persistence paid off on Nov. 22 (2015) with a dream buck that will almost certainly qualify for the Boone & Crockett Club’s all-time record book and rank among the top five non-typical bucks in state history. Patrick’s 22-pointer, shot in Rockingham County in north-central North Carolina, green scored 208. He shot the great buck out of a ground blind with a .300 Win. Mag. Way to go man.

Louisiana: Tensas Refuge 200” Crossbow Buck

2020-06-10T09:17:00-04:00January 14th, 2016|Big Deer Stories, Big Deer TV|2 Comments

From Louisiana Sportsman: Crowville’s Garry Ward has hunted the Tensas National Wildlife Refuge property since he was 6 years old — and at 58 he scored what has been green scored as the largest buck ever taken with a crossbow in Louisiana. “It took me 52 years to do this deal,” Ward laughed. One of the green-scorers put the rack 213 7/8 inches, while another got 192 5/8 inches. No matter the final net, this massive, palmated giant will be the new Louisiana crossbow record. Louisiana is one of the relatively few states where I have not hunted whitetails, but I sure want to and intend to someday. Read the full story here.
