A Michigan hunter named Goose saw me shoot several bucks recently on TV with a Marlin Model 336 in .35 Rem. and he had to have one. He ordered his .35 lever more than a year ago, and has been waiting patiently for it since. With the ammo shortage that will extend into to the end of 2021 and likely beyond, millions of shooters and hunters are having to dig deep in their basements and gun cabinets to come up with a few boxes of cartridges to use. Cartridges that might be 5, 10 or more years old. As long as old ammo is stored properly it will generally be good for many years. But sometimes old cartridges can corrode and should not be fired, but rather discarded. I have blogged multiple times about the incredible ammo shortage of 2020 and now running into 2021. You’ve felt it and so have I. In fact, for my deer hunting the last 3 months, I had to rummage my ammo stash and dig out a box of 20-year-old-plus Federal Premium .30-06 w/165-grain Trophy Bonded bullet. No complaints, I shot 5 bucks with 5 shots and the old ammo performed beautifully. One of the coolest bucks and stories of the year. From The Dallas Morning News: Virginia Luce’s 11-pointer isn’t the biggest buck reported from eastern Texas this season, but the story behind her Houston County whopper is arguably one of the most refreshing to come down the pike in quite a while. Virginia, 80, is a cancer survivor who recently retired after working 25 years as a registered nurse.
