Louisiana: Giant Palmated Buck, 201 2/8

2020-06-10T09:23:05-04:00February 3rd, 2014|BigDeer|2 Comments

Saw this on the Big Buck Club’s Facebook page, what a cool and unique deer. I’ve hunted whitetails for more than 30 years across North America, and I have yet to see a palmated rack like this in the woods. This much palmation is very rare…perhaps more unique even than a drop-club that continues to elude and haunt me.

Biggest Sunday of the year coming up this weekend, and as always I want to hear your prediction! For this year's challenge pick the winner and total number of points scored in the game. For example, if you think the Seattle Seahawks are gonna win 24-14, vote “Seahawks 38.” If you think Denver wins 20-17, vote "Broncos 37" (Or something along these lines).  Closest to total points with right team (over or under) wins. In case of a tie, I'll pull one winner out of a hat. Winner gets a brand new Big Deer Camo Vest!  One vote per blogger email, but your wife, girlfriend, kid, buddy can vote too. The contest will be open till 5:00 PM EST this [...]

Last season was one of my toughest ever. I was in the woods for some 70 days across the country, and nothing came easy. I saw fewer deer—and fewer mature bucks—than in years past. In some places we saw way fewer deer. The camera guys and I hunted hard as hell and we shot some good bucks. But we had to scratch and claw for every one we got.   It was tough hunting for many of you too, especially if you live in the Midwest. Some preliminary figures show the deer kill was down 7 percent in Wisconsin and Minnesota; down a whopping 25 percent in Illinois; down 10-20 percent in Michigan (depending on region, from south to north); [...]

The 30-point non-typical monster that Shelton Earls, 72, shot in Franklin County last December has been scored three times, producing measurements from 222 to 228 inches. “He’s something else, that’s for sure,” Earls told Bobby Cleveland of the Mississippi Sportsman. “He’s a buck of a lifetime… I’ve hunted a long time and I know I’ve never seen anything like him.” Click this link and read the full story of Shelton’s buck, which is filled with lots of interesting twists and turns. Way to go Shelton, awesome man!
