Is our out-of-control federal government (most notably Big Sis at DHS) buying up all the ammunition so that we law-abiding shooters and home defenders can’t get any, in effect going through the back door to get the gun control they want? If you don’t have any ammo, why have a gun?
U.S. Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) believes so. He told the Daily Caller: “I believe it’s intentional. Now we had someone testify the other day the DHS, the Department of Homeland Security, has the ‘right’ — this is a bureaucrat that said this — they have the ‘right’ to buy as much as they want, and they’re planning to buy 750 million rounds. Well, that is more than three times the amount that our soldiers are using for training to defend our nation. So, it’s just another effort to restrict gun activity and ownership. We have in this country the Second Amendment, that preserves the right to keep and bear arms, and the president doesn’t believe in that.”
I am normally not a conspiracy theorist, and when I first heard this type talk start up a few months ago I brushed it off. But now, as ammo shortages (especially 22 LR, 9mm and .223) wear on and worsen in many areas, I’m not so sure–and in fact I’m starting to agree with Inhofe and others. Semi-autos chambered for 9mm, .223 and the like are the ones the gun-grabbers want to get first! Hoard that ammo and in effect get rid of those guns?
What do you think?
I must thank you for the efforts you have put in writing this blog. I am hoping to see the same high-grade blog posts from you later on as well. In truth, your creative writing abilities has encouraged me to get my own blog now ;)
Excellent post! We will be linking to this great article on our site. Keep up the good writing.
Agree 100%
In GA 22’s hard to get except target ammo. 9mm and .223 are scarce. Shot shells are at a minimum too, except the 3″ and 3.5″ . Skeet and trap shooters who don’t reload are hurting and even the big shoots are worrying if shells will be available at the matches, or will have to bring it all.
Spoke w/ WalMart friend and he said their deliveries are in the early AM and stocked as delivered, so the early birds get it all- even w/ restrictions, before others can get there on lunch hour or on the way home.
Well if the Gov’t is hording just think what the military surplus ammo prices will fall to in 10 year or so…about $1.50/box
I’ve said for years that if you want to stop people from purchasing guns, make it tougher to get take the ammo. Is that what’s happening now?
After Sandy Hook I did expect shortages with 9mm and .223. The .22lr situation seems to be one primarily caused by hoarding. There are pages and pages of .22s available online if you are willing to pay $100.00 (or more) per brick. I always keep ammo back so (to this point) I’ve been unaffected. I have been able to find .22s (at pre-panic/hoarding) prices here and there since Sandy Hook and the frequency of finding them in stores appears to be increasing. Other common calibers (and shotgun shells) I’ve never had trouble purchasing.
Does all this mean I expect gun ownership to be all rosy as the future unfolds? Nope….I fully expect a total lead ban on ammo and that the EPA will try and shut gun ranges down due to lead contamination in the soil and ground water. My local range is concerned about those issues as well as surrounding residents complaining about noise.
When you look @ it as a whole…..what basically could be considered an end run around the 2nd amendment appears to be on the horizon………
In other words….you can own guns, but good luck using them.
I too wonder why private ammo manufacturers can’t keep a supply line open for their retail customers. I understand the federal government has put in a couple of HUGE orders in the past couple years. However, I would think the ammo companies would understand who is their loyal customer base and reserve enough supply for those who want it.
Im Glad i shoot 17HMR :) tons of it all over
Im like you mike, i dont get into this kinda of gossip because everybody has an opinion.. But somethings going on. I mean when was the last time it was hard to get 22 shells. used to be never but now its everytime i go to buy some. I hope its not the case but its startin to seem that way for sure
Many saw this coming the first time DumbO was elected an there was a rush on ammo supplies then, time passed and he was elected by the “There must be a program for me” crowd. Well those that didn’t begin buying up ammo or learn to reload their own and stock up on componets so as to keep themselves on the firing line have egg on their faces now.
Always seems as though there is a wide spectrum of human behavior some will horde for a rainy day while others will put it off until it’s too late then whine about it. The fact is if you want security you must take an active role for yourself.
