Breaking: Will 311” Illinois Buck Be New Archery World Record?

2020-06-10T09:15:27-04:00November 8th, 2018|Big Deer Stories, BigDeer, Bowhunting, Deer Hunting|1 Comment

2018 will go down as a tremendous rack year, as some giants are being shot across North America. Will it also be the year the record is broken for the highest-scoring whitetail buck ever killed with a bow? This picture has been all over social media. Here’s a report from a source I trust: This buck was killed in Edgar County, Illinois between Paris and Chrisman by a disabled Veteran Luke Brewster of Virginia. His close friend was hunting the buck and he came down and got a shot on him his first day on the hunt. The deer was 100% free range and legal after being investigated by the IDNR. It has 39 countable points and green scored 311” [...]

Review: Golden Doe Scent Spray

2020-06-10T09:15:27-04:00November 8th, 2018|BigDeer|Comments Off on Review: Golden Doe Scent Spray

One of my favorite new products for 2018-19 is Golden Doe Spray from Wildlife Research Center. It’s convenient to use, no fuss and no mess. Set a couple of wicks 6 feet off the ground and spray them downwind with Golden Doe. On the way back to your stand spray a few more limbs, branches or clusters of dry leaves with shots of Golden Doe to swirl more lure out there. Here’s a cool way to use it: On the sneak into a stand or blind, carry the can low in your hand and spray here and there to create a doe scent trail into your spot, in hopes a buck will cut the scent line and walk close. No [...]

Best Stand For The Deer Rut

2020-06-10T09:15:27-04:00November 7th, 2018|BigDeer|Comments Off on Best Stand For The Deer Rut

I don’t care where you hunt, this setup is one of the best for the next 2 weeks of the whitetail rut. On a map or Google Earth, or from experience of hunting a piece of ground in the past, look for a ridge 100 to 200 yards off a corn or bean field and back in the timber. Scout around and set your stand (or ground blind) where a series of ridges, flats, shallow draws and a winding creek come together. This spot is a dumping ground for deer throughout the rut. Note the predominant wind in the area (N to NW generally, except in coastal areas of the SE). Sneak in with all the gear you need--including lunch, [...]

Oklahoma: Early-Rut Blackpowder Buck

2020-06-10T09:15:27-04:00November 6th, 2018|Big Deer Stories, BigDeer, Deer Guns & Loads, Deer Hunting|1 Comment

Today's guest blog from Brian out in Southeast Oklahoma: This buck first showed up on my game cameras October 21st. Didn’t know him and had never seen him before. Then he was on camera again the morning of October 29 at 6:00 a.m. I hunted that evening and saw some younger bucks and does but no mature bucks. One young buck was pushing does around and grunting and roaring, so I knew they were rutting in the area. When I slipped out I left most of my equipment in the tree so I could slip in as quietly as possible the next morning. The wind was iffy the morning of October 30th. It was warm but I had that feeling [...]

69-Year-Old Hunter Shoots First Bow Buck

2020-06-10T09:15:27-04:00November 5th, 2018|Big Deer Stories, Big Deer TV, BigDeer, Bowhunting, Deer Hunting|1 Comment

This is one of the coolest Tweets I've read in a while. Jerry @ BG_Two tweeted: My dad will be 70 next year and he got his first bow buck last night! He was shaking like a little kid when I got to him. I wouldn't trade that moment for anything. He had a goal to get one before moving on to a crossbow and we did it together. I am still pumped! This is just tremendous and makes me happy, way to go guys.
