4 Big Bucks Across America

Got these 4 emails and pictures recently: From Ronald: Mike, here’s a buck a good friend of mine shot during Ohio's Gun Season. From Josh M.: Mike,  I really enjoy your show Big Deer TV. I thought you might like to see my biggest buck to date. A 155" gross taken on Nov. 25th in eastern Oklahoma. He gave me a shot when he came to investigate my snort-wheeze and grunts. My 15 year old son was with me on this hunt so that made it even more special to me. From Bob: Mike, this beauty refused to come in range during Iowa's first gun season. Unfortunately it’s just a 5 day season for non-residents. Best I can hope for is [...]

Wisconsin: New #1 and #2 Archery Bucks!

2020-06-10T09:19:53-04:00December 18th, 2014|BigDeer|5 Comments

Two years ago I posted this blog on the 14-point typical monster shot by Dusty Gerrits in Fond du Lac Country one November day in 2012. It net-scored 189 3/8 inches, and at the time was the new state record. I was so impressed with that buck that the next summer I went up and filmed a BIG DEER TV segment with Dusty at his hunting cabin. This past October 11, a 13-pointer shot by Wisconsin bowhunter Adam Hupf edged out the Gerrits buck to become the new state archery record for typical bucks. After the mandatory 60-day drying period, the Hupf rack was panel-scored in Green Bay and measured an official 191 6/8 inches. Yesterday I got this email and exclusive [...]

Oklahoma Giant Buck, 230 7/8”!

2020-06-10T09:19:53-04:00December 17th, 2014|BigDeer|4 Comments

Got this from longtime blogger Greg in Oklahoma: Mike: I thought you'd like to see some photos of a giant that was taken (in late November) in Oklahoma. It has been officially measured at 230 7/8" gross green. The neighbors apparently had been watching the buck for 3 years. I don't know the huntress, but I saw the photos on an Oklahoma Bragging Board Facebook page. Hoping to get in touch with this lady for the full story of this monster!

Maryland Easton Shore: Giant Non-Typical Bow Buck 1581/4!

2020-06-10T09:19:53-04:00December 15th, 2014|Big Deer Stories, BigDeer|2 Comments

Today’s guest blog from bowhunter Eddie Roberts: Hi Mike: I would like to share a story of the whitetail hunt I went on in Chestertown, MD November 10-15, 2014. I booked the hunt with Kirby Bryan, outfitter for Chesapeake Hunting on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The first 3 days of the hunt were warm, and the deer were moving during the early morning and late evening hours. I saw plenty of deer that were 2 ½ to 3 ½ years old, but I was hunting for a mature buck. On November 14th I was in a stand positioned between a bedding area and a feeding area. I finally had a good NW wind. It was cold and windy, but [...]

South Texas: Big Drop-Tine and Sticker Bucks!

Thanks to our friend Wren for this hunt report from deep in the Brush Country: As for this awesome drop, Wren wrote,” Thought about you when I saw this buck one  Saturday recently. Based on buck activity we have observed I am betting on the rut peaking early in our area. Does getting harassed and staying in the brush, avoiding open senderos. Older bucks showing aggressive behavior, lots of scraping, rubbing antlers / fighting scrub brush, have seen several pretty serious fights between mature bucks. It’s early for us to be shooting trophies, we are focused on meeting our management numbers now. Looks like a great year for racks in the Brush Country!" Jake Degeyter of Atchafalaya Taxidermy sent Wren the picture of this [...]
