Leading up to the first-ever whitetail summit held in Missouri last month, QDMA CEO and biologist Brian Murphy said: “Whitetail numbers are down throughout much of their range due to many factors including EHD, predators, and even over-harvest. In some areas, herds are below what the habitat can support and what provides a quality hunting experience. Spring Scout For Big Bucks

Do any of you walk the woods and scout for old buck sign this time of year? I know it's not a sexy topic, but if you go out and do it a few days this spring, your whitetail hunting will improve three-fold 6 months from now. A study of wild, hunted deer in Louisiana found that the average core area of mature bucks in the fall and winter months is only about 300 acres. Much smaller than you probably imagined. 5-Year-Old Shed Hunter!

Thanks to longtime blogger Necbone for sending: Hey Mike, I saw your post the other day about shed hunting and thought I would share a couple of pics. Briar found his biggest shed ever last week, and he also caught his biggest bass. He has become quite the outdoorsman at only 5!—Thanks, keep up the good work, Necbone What a perfect way to end the week. Giant Illinois Shed Antler!

From the Midwest Buck Quest Facebook Page: 109 inches, found in Southern Illinois. Wow!!! The 2 extra beams are obviously cool and unique, but check out the antler base. Big around as a pop can! I’ve seen mass like that come out of southern Illinois before.
