On the plains of the Texas Panhandle last December, I packed in this unique little blind, plopped down the attached chair, sat down in it, organized my gear around me, pulled the camouflage fabric cover over my head, and was hunting a buck in minutes. The Ameristep Tent Chair has these advantages over standard and generally larger ground blinds: small, lightweight and easy to pack. since it’s one piece, no lugging both blind and chair(s) and having to make multiple trips to get all your gear into a hunt spot; you hike in with your rifle, pack and the Tent Chair on your shoulder (carry case included), find your spot and you’re ready to set up and hunt. you have [...]

During the insufferable pandemic, longing to get outside and get fresh air for health and sanity, more people hunted deer last fall than in a decade. State game departments across the U.S. report that the sale of hunting licenses was up 5%, 10% or more in 2020. Studies show that on average people quit hunting at age 65. Climbing a tree or wrestling a 200-pound deer out of the woods is not as easy as it used to be. By 2030, it is estimated that more than 1 million Boomers will have hung up their guns and bows. Wildlife officials are worried about reduced money for conservation programs. Much of the outdoor has media predicted doom and gloom for the future of hunting. Then came COVID. In a turn [...]

Southwick Associates, a market research firm specializing in the hunting and shooting business, recently surveyed more than 1,800 ammunition consumers as part of its quarterly Hunter/Shooter Survey. They found that in 2020, four out of five consumers encountered out of stock issues while trying to purchase ammunition. Three-quarters of those hunters/shooters have encountered out of stock ammo situations so far in 2021. Of the respondents, 79% reported either fully or partially reducing their target shooting and hunting outings as a result of depleted ammunition shelves. Going forward into 2021, ammunition demand is expected to remain high. Nearly two-thirds of respondents report their current ammo inventory was lower than they would prefer. When asked how much more ammunition they would like to [...]
