The section entitled “Traveling Requirements for Firearms” in QDMA’s 2020 Whitetail Report caught my attention. Having hunted deer and other animals in 40 states over the years, I know first-hand that “case laws” vary from state to state, and even county to county. This can be confusing, and in a worst-case scenario can get you in one hell of a jam if you don’t know and follow the laws. 7 states* require rifles/shotguns/muzzleloaders to be cased (either hard or soft case) in a vehicle at all times, whether you hunting near home for the day, or driving through one state to get to another. Saw this from one of our followers, Scott, on the @bigdeertv Instagram: I have had a lot of people ask for build plans for this bench. I posted the website. The bench is made with pressure treated wood and cost me $107 dollars to make. Plans give cut measurements and detailed directions for build. Enjoy. Say you’re sighting-in your hunting rifle, firing 3-shot groups from the bench. It's going well. Your shots are grouping an inch or less. You shoot on, and every now and then a bullet strikes the target a couple inches to the left or right (or high or low) of your main point of impact. You start to get frustrated and think about moving the scope--Don't! As long as 2 bullet holes stay clustered within an inch, you’re in good shape. Any “flyers” were likely due to human error—you've shot too much and flinched a bit or maybe jerked the trigger and pulled the errant shot offline. The worst thing you can do is worry about one bad shot and start [...]

Right now is the perfect time to grab your hunting rifles and head to the shooting range. The joint will be empty this time of year, especially on weekdays. You can test different brands of ammo, sight-in a new scope or just practice with your old rigs without a crowd of shooters breathing down your neck for bench time like they would come September on the brink of another hunting season. The more you fine-tune your rifles and shoot in the off-season, the better your chances of a one-shot game kill this fall. Here are 8 tips that will get you on zero and ready extra-early. Easy Save-Money Sight-In Rather than sighting-in the old way--firing a bunch of bullets at [...]
