Have you gotten your 2020 shoulder mount back yet? I doubt it. Recently I took a social media poll of fervent deer hunters and asked them how long on average it takes to get a buck back from their taxidermist. I got hundreds of great responses, split down the middle: 49% of people said 8 or 9 months, and 51% said 10 months to a year. There were some outliers. A few people said they got their mounts back 2 to 4 months after they killed those deer. Those were early bow kills. Hey Mike: It was an easy winter on whitetails this year in NE North Dakota. We had very little snow and only about 1 week with really cold temperatures. The deer should be in good health. I got this picture of a buck still holding his antlers on April 10th! Does that seem abnormally late? What is the latest you have heard of whitetails dropping their sheds this far north? I figured it was possible considering the mild winter. Other ideas that crossed my mind were, is this an antlered doe? But usually, antlered does remain in velvet. From the Boone & Crockett Club’s most recent data: #1 – Wisconsin Wisconsin is the #1 ranked state with 1,822 total entries and 6 counties in the top 20 U.S. counties with the most records produced. Virginia Reports 20 New Deer Infected With CWD

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) has announced the results of the 2020 – 2021 Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) surveillance efforts for two prominent Disease Management Areas, which encompass 11 counties in Virginia. DMA1 includes the counties of Clarke, Frederick, Shenandoah, and Warren; and DMA2 includes the counties of Culpeper, Fauquier, Loudoun, Madison, Page, Orange, and Rappahannock. Within the two DMAs, a total of 20 hunter-harvested whitetails were confirmed to be infected with CWD. Of the 20 CWD-positive deer, 13 originated in Frederick County, two originated in Shenandoah County, and one was harvested in each of Madison, Loudoun, Fauquier, Rappahannock, and Warren Counties.
